THE TEA PARTY (2012) *

Short-film directed by Luz Orlando Brennan

Credits: Director, Screenwriter, Executive Producer

SYNOPSIS

The Tea Party carries the tragicomic aftertaste of a class in decline. Its characters echo the women of Marie Antoinette’s court, desperately clinging to the rituals of a fading reign — the reign of beauty. Their attempts to sustain it are both hopeless and absurd.

It is within this fragile, encapsulated world — and in its collision with the reality they fear — that these women drift toward their own undoing. By pushing their obsession with beauty to the point of excess, the film exposes a very real anxiety that shapes the lives of many women today: we are willing to endure pain and spend fortunes on aesthetic perfection, yet rarely care for our bodies in the ways that truly matter.
