Luz Orlando Brennan is an Argentine film and theater director, screenwriter, and producer. She graduated as a screenwriter from ENERC and trained at various acting schools, in addition to studying Sociology and Literature at the University of Buenos Aires. Her work has been selected at international festivals around the world, including the Berlinale, San Sebastián, Viennale, AFI, BFI London, Annecy, and the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
As a screenwriter, she has collaborated with directors such as Natalia Meta (Death in Buenos Aires, 2014), Bárbara Cerro (All Futures, 2024; Dior, 2021; Artemis, 2019), and Diego Fried (The Silent Party, 2019). She has also worked as an assistant director with Edgardo Castro (La noche, 2016), and as an associate producer on The Intruder (El prófugo, 2020), directed by Natalia Meta, which was selected for the International Competition at the 70th Berlinale.
In television, she worked on the series Mentira la Verdad (Season 3, Canal Encuentro), La historia se sienta a la mesa (Gourmet), and Cuba desde Cuba (Gourmet).
She has also worked as a consultant and script doctor on several film projects, including La niña de tacones amarillos by Luján Loioco (2015), Familia (2020) by Edgardo Castro, and La valija de Benavidez (2016) by Laura Casabé, among others.
La estrella que perdí (The Star I Lost, 2024), her debut feature film, premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival (USA) and was selected at BAFICI (Argentina), SANFIC (Chile), FAM (Brazil)—where Mirta Busnelli received a Special Mention for Best Actress—Construir Cine, FICPBA, and MARFICI (Argentina).
The film also screened at the Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival, the St. Louis International Film Festival, and the Chelsea Film Festival (New York, USA), where it won the Best Director Award and Mirta Busnelli received the award for Best Leading Actress. It further participated in the Martha’s Vineyard Women in Film Festival (Massachusetts, USA), the Female Eye Film Festival (Ottawa, Canada), and the Imago Film Festival (Italy), where Mirta Busnelli won the award for Best Actress.
The Star I Lost received the award for Best Narrative Feature at the Spokane International Film Festival (Washington, USA) and at Cine Las Américas (Austin, USA).
Her short film En Crítica (Critica, 2014) won the Historias Breves competition and was selected at several international festivals, including the Shnit International Short Film Festival and the Sapporo International Short Film Festival (Japan), among othersSu cortometraje En Crítica (Critica, 2014) fue ganador de Historias Breves y selecionado por diversos festivales internacionales, entre ellos el Shnit International Short Film Festival y el Sapporo International Short Film Festival (Japón), entre otros.
In theater, Luz directed and adapted for the stage Memento Mori, based on the celebrated novel by Muriel Spark, which premiered at El Camarín de las Musas theater in Buenos Aires.
For ten years, she taught screenwriting in the MFA in Film Directing at Universidad del Cine (FUC), as part of Dodi Scheuer’s chair.
She has served as a jury member at festivals such as Bitbang and Hayah International Short Film Festival (Panama).
She has been selected to participate in several international labs, including Produire au Sud, Morelia Lab, Kyoto Filmmakers Lab, and MIANIMA, among others.
She is currently developing feature films and animated series, while continuing her studies and training as an astrologer.
